Indian Collection A goshawk drinking c. 1730 11.6 x 17.1 cm Gouache with gold and silver on paper. This strong and unusual bird study depicts a Northern Goshawk (Accipiter gentilis) belonging to a Raja of Mandi, where hawking was an especially popular royal pursuit. Leaving its painted perch, the goshawk has alighted on its water-bowl, an exotic blue and white jardinière of Chinese origin.
