The upcoming Classic Design sale in London will showcase a remarkable array of private collections with works of art spanning the 17thcentury all the way to the 20th century, and each of these will reflect the refined taste and meticulous care of its discerning collectors. Amongst the highlights, the auction will first feature an exquisite selection of pieces from an English interior including early silver, Meissen porcelain and Georgian furniture. At the heart of this collection stands an exceptional George III commode, crafted from padouk and tulipwood marquetry and attributed to the renowned London cabinet-maker Pierre Langlois.

Moving across the channel to France, the sale will offer an impressive private collection from the Louis XV and Louis XVI periods. This segment will include fine timepieces as well as elegant furniture by clockmakers and ébénistes such as Saint Germain, David Roentgen, Jean-Henri Riesener and Adam Weisweiler.

Additionally, the sale will feature a selection from the Collection of the Late Howard Hodgkin, the contents from a stylish Roman apartment belonging to an important Noble Family and a rare group of neoclassical furniture, serving as a testament to the superb craftsmanship and high-quality materials prevalent during the second half of the 18th century.

Items in the sale will be on display at Sotheby’s, London, between November 8th – 12th.
