Hodgkin in Toulouse

HowardHodgkin will participate in the inaugural edition of the ToulouseInternational Art Festival in May 2013, with a solo exhibition at theFondation Bemberg. At the invitation of the Festival’s ArtisticDirector the artist Jean-Marc Bustamante, Hodgkin will be representedby twenty two paintings covering more than sixty years of his career,and borrowed from museum and private collections. The earliest workon show will be Hodgkin’s celebrated 1949 painting Memoirs and the most recent, HighTide and LowTide, completedin 2012. The exhibition marks his first exhibition in France since heshowed Small Paintings 1975-1989 at the Musee des Beaux Arts, Nantes,in 1990.

Eighteenpaintings will be displayed in three dedicated galleries at theFondation Bemberg. The four remaining works will be hung in gallerieshousing the permanent collection. They will be in dialogue withimportant works from eighteenth century Italy, and nineteenth centuryFrance.
