Indian Collection Maharaja Raj Singh of Sawar in a garden arcade 1710 - 1715 29.4 x 39.2 cm Gouache with gold on paper. A flower in his hand, Raj Singh of Sawar (r.1705-1730) appears against a pale green ground as if appearing at a palaceĀ jharokawindow. But the arch which frames him is part of an arcade in a pleasure garden with a fountain, water-course and flowering shrubs. The Raja is attended by half-sized maids bearing porcelain wine-flasks and a peacock-feather fan.
