Sidi Masud Khan

19.8 x 16.2 cm

Gouache with gold and silver on paper.

This painting of Sidi Masud Khan, a habshi (African) minister at the court of Bijapur, belonged to a Golconda series of portraits of eminent men. Masud Khan remained in power until 1683, not long before Bijapur fell to the Mughals. He then moved to Adoni in the Kurnool district, where he governed for a short time and built a notable mosque.
