The elephant Khushi Khan (‘Lord of Happiness’) is portrayed fully caparisoned with trappings, bells and gold-embroidered saddle-cloth. He is shown against the pale verdigris green ground often used in Mughal portraiture. His name is recorded in red within the gold cartouche below.
