24th May 2023 Portrait of Hodgkin by Patrick Caulfield on display at Josh Lilley Gallery Portrait of Howard Hodgkin, c.1975, by Patrick Caulfield, ink on paper. ‘Pass the Peas’, an exhibition of largely unseen work by Patrick Caulfield (1936–2005) is currently open at Josh Lilley Gallery. The exhibition features a portrait of Hodgkin by Caulfield.Caulfield was very close friends with Hodgkin and was the subject of three Hodgkin paintings. Hodgkin described Caulfield as “the closest I ever came to having a painter colleague”.
