7th December 2021 The Art Fund A Small Thing Enlarged, 1992 Howard Hodgkin: A Small Thing Enlarged15-colour screen print A limited special edition of Hodgkin’s original work (190x400mm) produced with the permission of the Trustees of the Howard Hodgkin Paintings and Prints Trust especially for the #TogetherForMuseums campaign. 15-colour screen print on hand-torn 400gsm Somerset satin mould-made cotton paper, with embossed Howard Hodgkin signature, numbered and presented in a portfolio with a certificate of authorisation signed by the estate and trustees. The print is made from the small gouache Howard painted for the BBC Billboard project in 1992. He was excited by changes in scale, admired the work of Vladimir Polunin (1880-1957), chief scene painter of the Ballet Russes, who worked with Picasso and could make a backdrop from a sketch on a matchbox. Polunin later taught scenic design at the Slade School of Fine Art. Howard called this work A Small Thing Enlarged. More information launch
